The Bennelong Foundation Scholarship and Internship

Established in 2002 by the Bangarra Group, the Bennelong Foundation aims to enhance community wellbeing and provide opportunities for positive and lasting change in our community. The Foundation also aims to provide opportunities for people within the Bangarra Group to personally get involved in the activities of the organisations it supports.

The Bennelong Foundation is generously funding one scholarship of $10,000 ($5,000 in Session 1, 2020 and $5,000 in Session 2, 2020) to a Macquarie University student who can demonstrate hardship. It is designed to support students whose opportunities to study at university and future career may have been hampered by situations outside their control, including, but not limited to, facing financial hardship, being first in your family to attend university, coming from a non-English speaking background or having a long-term medical condition or disability.

Applicants need to be in receipt of Youth Allowance or other means-tested Commonwealth support.

Along with the scholarship, the recipient will take part in a paid internship with 4D Infrastructure, within the Bangarra Group, from February to November 2020 one day per week (approx. $8,000 in remuneration, dependent on start and finish date. Applications are open to domestic students who will be enrolled full-time in 2020 in the second or third year of Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Commerce – Professional Accounting, or Bachelor of Applied Finance, or Bachelor of Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University or other relevant Macquarie Business School course.

The selection committee will assess each application against the selection criteria. The success applicant will:

  • Be enrolled full-time in 2020 in the second or third year of Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Commerce – Professional Accounting, or Bachelor of Applied Finance, or Bachelor of Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University or other relevant Macquarie Business School course.
  • Meet the requirements to enrol in MQBS2000/MQBS3000 in 2020.
  • Be able to demonstrate financial need, through receipt of Youth Allowance or other means-tested Commonwealth support and provide a personal statement addressing this criterion.
  • Demonstrate leadership, motivation, attitude and drive to pursue a career in financial services, in line with the mission and values of the Bangarra Group and the Bennelong Foundation.
  • Demonstrate evidence of the skills and attributes required to undertake paid work experience with the donor beginning in February 2020, including a strong financial and accounting understanding and skills; high level of diligence and error-free approach; Microsoft Excel competency.
  • Be available for an informal interview by a selection panel in November/December 2019.
  • Academic merit may be considered.

All domestic applicants are encouraged, including Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

The successful applicant will need to undergo a relevant police check.

Please note:

  • The scholarship will not be awarded in any year in which no candidate is considered of sufficient merit when judged against the selection criteria.
  • The successful candidate will be made a conditional offer of the scholarship and internship in November 2019
  • The formal offer of the scholarship and internship will be made once the results for session 2 2019 have been reviewed.
  • The scholarship may not be deferred.
